For art in 4th grade our main goal it to introduce and explore various art concepts, forms and artists. We focus more on the process than necessarily trying to get a finished product each week. We try to incorporate a variety of textures and media, but do not do much with paint given our limited art time. We use found objects when we can, because it's fun seeing their creativity in what we can do with 'junk', it's freely available and reusing things helps us live out one of our Student Learning Expectations (SLEs) of being Caring Compassionate Caretakers of God's Creation.
As often as we can our finished projects are made for someone else. This fits to our SLE of being Strong Catholic Christians and shows how we can do something for others even at this young age. I'm always using St. Therese as an example and talk about doing small things with great love.
