Parent Letter Faith Reflection

Faith Reflection:  Mercy—Love in action

One of the important things about our faith is that we proclaim and celebrate something concrete.  As Pope Francis said during a homily earlier this week in speaking of the Easter mystery, “the Word was made flesh; it was not made an idea.  And when we recite the Creed, everything we say is concrete: ‘I believe in God the Father, Who made heaven and earth…’  These are all concrete things.  Our Creed does not say, ‘I have to do this, I have to do that…’”  But the concreteness of our faith also means we cannot remain silent about what we have seen and heard; we must go and do as our Lord commanded and bring the good news to all people.

Our 7th grader understands the concrete reality of the Resurrection and she isn’t remaining silent.  Listen to her this week as she speaks of the same things that the Pope did.  He is Risen; He is Risen Indeed!

 Mercy Essay

I can evangelize in many ways.  I can do this by telling people about God.  I can tell them about all the amazing things he has done in the lives of those who follow him.  I can make the decisions that Jesus would have made.  I can let God influence everything I do.

I can show mercy on a daily basis.  I can forgive people.  I can be kind to them even if they haven’t been nice to me.  I can help people in need.  I can help people every day.

Thank you to all of you who told family and friends about the Returning Catholic series that started at our parish last week.  It was great hearing Deacon Mike say they had 20 in attendance the first night.  As Deacon Steve confirmed that was a large group and would not have happened without your help.

The May article under ‘Five Minutes With Francis’ will be available by the end of the week.  It will be a brief look at the Code of Canon Law.  The Code, though necessary for the visible functioning of the Church, understands that the Word was made flesh, not law and was revised and promulgated with this Law of Love in mind.

For the next several weeks there will not be the holy hour of Adoration at El Carmelo on Monday nights.  It will resume around the middle of May.

   Thank you.  Mrs. Alhadef
