Faith Reflection:  Mercy—The Beauty of Our Young

In speaking about the young Pope Francis said that “to educate is not to know things, but being capable of using three languages, that of the hands, the heart and the mind.” Learning and knowing new things is, of course, important but we must use our education and bring what we know out into the world with love and joy to truly reap its benefits. We must take risks, Francis continued, so we can “think what [we] feel and do; feel what [we] think and do; and do what [we] think and feel.” In this throw away culture, the Pope stressed, speaking these three languages allows us “to be coherent instead of being cut into pieces.”

Our 7th graders have intuited all this without hearing the Pope’s homilies. Their essays have just naturally focused on these three languages of hands, heart and mind. I hope as we continue to read their essays that it becomes as natural for us to ‘speak’ these three languages as it is for our youth.

Essay on Youth

 by Isabella Olmos

Today in our modern world we have unlimited ways to spread the Good News. We can spread the Good News by praying with others, especially people who don’t know God. One of my concerns is that people only pray, which is good, but people should also read the Bible. The Bible has good life lessons that people can reflect on. My other concern is that during Mass people aren’t really responding as much as they should.

We can better live our faith by being compassionate to others. We can give food to people who are less fortunate than us. I can keep my faith alive and active by going to Mass every Sunday.

In conclusion I can keep my faith strong by praying, reading the Bible, and going to Mass. In my opinion this is how youth can keep their faith alive.

We will continue to let you know what Cinema for the Soul is showing each month but as Miss Morrison’s ministry has grown so has the need for it’s own space. We’re happy to announce Cinema for the Soul now has it’s own page on the parish website. Click under Community/cinema at the parish’s homepage where you can learn what is happening each month.

Next Wednesday is a Holy Day of Obligation for the Solemnity of All Saints Day. The parish offers several Masses throughout the day including the 9:00a Mass led by our Eighth Graders. Mass is the greatest prayer we can pray each week and what could be more beautiful than hearing the voices of our students? Come join us as we praise God and celebrate the lives of the holy people who have gone before us.

   Thank you.  Mrs. Alhadef
