Parent Letter Faith Reflection

I sing of mercy and justice; to you. Lord, I sing praise./Celebraré con un canto la Misericordia y la justicia; a ti, Señor, te cantaré.—Psalm 101

Father Arinze was sick for the better part of November. As someone who enjoys singing and has been in choirs many times his voice being gone for so long was not easy. I don’t know how much this influenced his homilies but as he got better music and singing played a part at least on two occasions.

In his homily the Sunday before Thanksgiving in talking about putting our faith into action Fr. Arinze said, “God will always provide the seed of faith, but we have to plant the seed, we have to water the seed, and in doing so we participate in God’s mission of serving the world.” At the end of his homily he invited us to see how God is helping us to put this seed of faith into action by reading the last lines of Bette Midler’s song “The Rose.” Today I will include all the lyrics:

Some say love, it is a river/That drowns the tender reed/Some say love, it is a razor/That leaves your soul to bleed/Some say love, it is a hunger/An endless aching need/I say love, it is a flower/And you, its only seed.  //  It’s the heart, afraid of breaking/That never learns to dance/It’s the dream, afraid of waking/That never takes the chance/It’s the one who won’t be taken/Who cannot seem to give/And the soul, afraid of dying/That never learns to live.  //  When the night has been too lonely/And the road has been too long/And you think that love is only/For the lucky and the strong/Just remember in the winter/Far beneath the bitter snows/Lies the seed that with the sun’s love/In the spring becomes the rose.

Showcasing SHA talent: 7th grade did a great job making an advent calendar that was placed on the Scrip counter.
