Parent Letter Faith Reflection

There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone./Ciertament, hay diversidad de dones, pero todo proceden del mismo Espíritu. Hay diversidad de ministerios, pero un solo Señor. Hay diversidad de ministerios, pero es el mismo Dios el que realiza todo en todos.—1Corinthians 12: 4-6

At the heart of the Gospel is love. Being love in the heart of the Church became Saint Thérèse of Lisieux’s vocation. To mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of St. Thérèse, Pope Francis released an exhortation in her honor, “C’est la Confiance” (“It is Confidence”), last month.

One of the most well known and beloved saints, Thérèse “wished to highlight the primacy of God’s action,” Francis wrote, but as a cloistered nun she wasn’t sure how to do this. Through prayer and confidence in a merciful God she found her “place” in the Church when she realized love was a vocation.

She had turned to chapters 12 and 13 in 1Corinithians and found her answer as she memorably wrote in her autobiography, Story of a Soul:...Considering the mystical body of the Church I had not recognized myself in any of the members described by Saint Paul, or rather I desired to see myself in them all. Charity gave me the key to my vocation...I understood that the Church had a Heart, and that this Heart was burning with love. I understood it was love alone that made the Church’s members act…I understood that Love comprised all vocations, that love was everything, that it embraced all times and places...I cried out...my vocation, at last I have found it...my vocation is Love! Yes, I have found my place in the Church...I shall be Love.”

Showcasing SHA talent: This Saint picture by Mariana in 8th may be St. Rita of Cascia, but is too stunning to not use this month where we honor the Saints.
