Parent Letter Faith Reflection

Faith Reflection:  Mercy—Love in action

As our attention is attuned this week, the holiest of weeks, to what Jesus did during his Passion I am reminded of what Bishop Robert Barron wrote in one of his Lent reflections last week: Jesus’ Crucifixion was the opening up of the divine heart so that we could see that no sin of ours would finally separate us from the love of God.  After 6 weeks of Lenten challenges and sacrifices, thinking about the ultimate sacrifice our Lord willingly chose to make for us, there are no better words I can leave you with as we head into the Triduum than these words above.  In the end, Jesus, out of an inexpressibly great love, did what he did so we would not be separated from him.  May you have a blessed and joyful Easter knowing how much God loves you.

Our 7th grader today shows us that we not only extend forgiveness to others, but we need to realize that we, too, are sinners in need of forgiveness.  In an honest appraisal of himself, our 7th grader saw his fault and sought forgiveness.

 Mercy Essay

I evangelize mercy by forgiving and asking for forgiveness.  I forgive when someone is very mean or rude to me.  For example, when someone kicks a ball at me, I forgive them.  I also asked for forgiveness when I was being mean to someone—I went to him and said, “sorry.”

The days and times for the various Holy Week Liturgies and events are in the parish bulletin as well as the schedule for the Easter Masses. The Triduum, beginning Thursday afternoon, is one beautiful liturgy, spread over three days, that sets the tone for the celebration of our Lord’s Resurrection. If you have not participated in the Supper of the Lord (Washing of Feet) or the Veneration of the Cross before do consider coming to these holy Liturgies.

El Carmelo will have a Celebration of the Lord's Passion at 3pm Good Friday and Confessions from 11:00am-12:00noon on Holy Saturday.  The public is also invited to join them Easter Sunday at 9am.

The April offering of Cinema for the Soul will be April 27th, the week we return from Easter vacation.  Like Jesus giving us a “get out of jail free” card through his sacrifice on the Cross, a juvenile offender is given a chance to stay out of jail when a police officer asks him to be a cross country partner for his blind son.  If I Had Wings is an inspiring movie about overcoming obstacles.  Please join us at 7pm upstairs in the Olive hall.

During the month of March we collected 11 bins of canned food at our school Masses that were donated to Family Services here in Redlands.  Thank you for your generosity that helps feed so many people.

   Thank you.  Mrs. Alhadef
