 Faith Reflection:  Mercy—Love in action

A church I walk past on my way to and from school had on their marquee this past week, “You're never alone.”  That was an aptly timed sentence for me as this past weekend was a challenging time and I definitely felt very much alone.  However, that marquee was in my mind and God’s presence came to me through friends who I turned to for prayers and who texted me some very loving and helpful words throughout the weekend that made the silence more bearable.  I know this experience is something we’ve all gone through at some point and I was thinking about what a difference it makes when we reach out to others in their need.  With this on my mind last night I went to the Olive hall and talked with the folks who had come from the San Bernardino Community Service Center, Inc. and CHIRLA (Coalition for Humane Immigrant Right of Los Angeles) to help those who want to become U.S. citizens.  For many people dealing with their immigration status this can be a time when they can feel very much alone.  I was pleased to see how kind and helpful these folks were, being Christ to others, helping immigrants to not feel so alone, by the simple act of caring.  Goodness and kindness are fruits of the Holy Spirit.  They are so easy to put into action, and you never know when they will make a great difference in someone’s life.

How to Evangelize Mercy

 by Carlos

I can forgive those who have sinned, those who have hurt me, and those who have hurt others.  I can give a second chance to those who have emotionally hurt me.

I can learn to love my enemies.  I can attend and participate in Mass, and give to the poor and needy.  Lastly, I can share what I have with others.

The San Bernardino Community Service Center, Inc provides a variety of immigration services - from help with expired visas to becoming a U.S. citizen.  They have a free walk-in clinic Wednesday evenings from 5-7pm.  They also take reservations for the Wednesday evening clinic, please call Rita Frausto at 909 885 1992 to make an appointment.  Services are provided on a sliding fee scale, and can be waived if necessary.

Keep an eye on an upcoming parish bulletin for the beginning date of citizenship classes that will be held at Columbia on Tuesday evenings.  If you are interested in helping with these classes please contact Mireya at 951 488 2230.  I’ve helped with these classes several years back through Catholic Charities in San Bernardino and found it most rewarding.

   Thank you.  Mrs. Alhadef
