Parent Letter Faith Reflection

Parent Letter Faith Reflection

I would venture to say most of us know someone who has a generous heart; the one who gives of their time, talent, or treasure so unhesitatingly. We see this kindness in the widow of Zarephath (1Kings 17:7-16). Elijah the Prophet is instructed by the Lord to go to Zarephath to a widow who, he is told, will provide for him. It is several years into a drought and the widow of Zarephath is fixing what she believes will be the last meal for her and her son. Elijah assures her otherwise and she takes him into her home and provides for him for a year as God has predicted. Filled with the Holy Spirit her kindness toward a stranger did not waiver. We too can extend kindness to others. By doing this we acknowledge the dignity in others and are better for it, for as the saying goes, love and kindness are never wasted.

Our 7th grader this week points out ways he has seen Bishop Barnes be kind. Over the years our bishop has been very supportive of our Catholic schools as you will read.

Bishop Barnes

 by Nicholias

Bishop Barnes will be missed for many reasons when he retires. The main reason is that he is a kind-hearted person. For example he has funded scholarships for families who are not able to afford a Catholic education for their children. He also chaired the committee on Hispanic Affairs from 1996-1999. Although I wish he had visited my school more often he is still a kind man.

God bless,
