Parent Letter Faith Reflection

Through patience Renaissance artist Plautilla Nelli overcame many challenges to produce the stunningly beautiful art she became famous for during her life. As a self-taught artist she patiently learned her craft eventually being sought after by wealthy Florentines. She studied sketches of painter Fra Bartolomeo, helping her to hone her painting skills since she wasn’t allowed to work alongside professional painters: she inherited some 500 sketches of Fra Bartolemeo through the generosity of Fra Paolino, an apprentice of Bartolmeo. It is believed she had up to 8 of the sisters from her convent helping her in her studio.

Patience at times is what we call upon when we need to wait for something, but patience can also be what we pull from as we ever so diligently work toward a goal; either way, being filled with the Spirit patience will help us to produce a positive result. And sometimes that just might be a great masterpiece.

The restoration of  Nelli’s Last Supper began 4 years ago; last month, after 450 years in storage, it was put on permanent public exhibit at the Santa Maria Novella Museum in Florence.
