Parent Letter Faith Reflection

Parent Letter Faith Reflection

A couple weeks ago I came across an article about Servant of God Sr. Thea Bowman. I was familiar with her in general but I didn’t previously know about her love of music. With Advent coming up at that point this caught my attention - the article said she had made two recordings one of which was Round the Glory Manger: Christmas Spirituals. Intrigued, I read further to learn more about this side of her that I was unfamiliar with. What came out the more I read was her joy. To know Sr. Thea and be around her was to be around joy. Being filled with this gift of the Holy Spirit helped her to love Jesus in all situations, to go into uncharted territory (she was the first and only African-American in her religious order) as well as warm the hearts of those around her. Advent is a season of waiting, but it’s a joyful waiting. Sr. Thea is a harbinger of that joy this week, may she continue to fill hearts with warmth and joy.

Neither the article nor my later Google search gave any links to her two recordings but I will at least direct you to the article where you can read more about this amazing saint in the making. https://www.globalsistersreport.org/news/spirituality-equality/sr-thea-bowman-takes-step-further-toward-canonization-bishops-vote-55620

I am using Jack’s essay this week because our diocese has now welcomed our Coadjutor bishop, Bishop Alberto Rojas and Jack's essay seemed most fitting. I will let Jack do the rest of the speaking (even if he was writing this back in September) as he welcomes Bishop Rojas and shares what he hopes our diocese will be like with our new bishop.

To Our New Bishop

Jack

 Dear New Bishop,

Welcome to our diocese. I hope you bring new ideas to the community. I also want you to help homeless people and charities. This is a strong, helpful, and peaceful community. There are a lot of cultures that you should know about. And I hope you read this and I hope you make our community happy.

God bless,
