Parent Letter Faith Reflection

Parent letter faith reflection

One of the Christmas cards I received this year had a peace crane in it. I was not familiar with these cranes so I took the time to read the write-up that came with it and liked what I read.

The Peace Cranes came about after the bombing of Hiroshima. Sadako Sasaki, a young survivor of the bombing was diagnosed with cancer 10 years later and spent her last days folding paper cranes; the Japanese have a tradition that if you fold a thousand cranes a wish you make will come true. Sadako did fold a thousand cranes but she still passed away at age 12. Inspired by her efforts Sadako’s friends raised funds to build a memorial to her and a monument to pray for world peace.

In this season of Advent we wait the coming of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Jesus shows us a new way, a better way to respond to violence. A peaceful way like how Sadako responded to a horrific event that she lived through. He will be here soon, may you use these last days of Advent to prepare the way for our Lord to come ever deeper into your life.

Goodbye to Bishop Barnes

by Ethan

Bishop Barnes is retiring and I will be sad to see him go. He was a good bishop throughout his time serving the Catholic Church. When the new bishop comes in I hope that he makes more activities to include young adults and children. Involving the community will help young adults and children to believe and to strengthen their bond with the church. I enjoyed knowing that Bishop Barnes has a strong religious background and I hope that the incoming bishop will have a strong religious background as well.

A good bishop has to be caring, compassionate, helpful, kind, religious, and a leader. These are all the characteristics that Bishop Barnes has and I hope that the incoming bishop will have the same characteristics. I also hope that the incoming bishop will be interactive like Bishop Barnes was and will come to different schools to do masses. I wish Bishop Barnes a happy retirement and I am happy for his service to the Church. I wish the incoming bishop good luck on his new journey in hope that he will be a great bishop!

God bless,
