Parent Letter Faith Reflection

Parent letter faith reflection

Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed. Are these the words announcing Catholic Schools Week, or are these words that describe Bishop Barnes? Yes! These words not only describe our students here at Sacred Heart Academy, upon reading our 7th grader’s essay you will see how these fit Bishop Barnes also.

These attributes we celebrate during Catholic Schools Week are no accident. Our students learn, serve, lead, and succeed because of the hard work put in by the parents, teachers, staff, and most importantly, our students themselves.

Our students are given many opportunities to succeed but having Jesus as our role model, Emma, in 6th grade, thought was the most important reason for our successes. Angie, also in 6th grade, said how we showcase and use our talents through athletics, the science fair, or the talent show helps us to be good leaders and be successful. Miguel, rounding out the musings of 6th grade, added that we learn by our mistakes, and students here serve in many ways such as being an altar server, being kind, and keeping the SLEs in mind.

Please join us at assembly tomorrow to see how spot on these 6th graders are when our students are celebrated for how they learn, serve, lead, and succeed when the student SLEs are awarded.

Bishop’s Resignation

By Emily

It is a big deal when someone who has been with a company a long time retires. It is especially a big deal when a bishop retires. Bishop Barnes has been with the San Bernardino diocese for twenty seven years and we appreciate him. It is now time for a new bishop to take his place and he can definitely learn a few things from Bishop Barnes!

First off, Bishop Barnes is very involved. He has come to our school several times and celebrated Mass with us. He visits over 1,000 kids a year and really made an impact in our lives when he visited our school. Even the little ones remember him coming. The bishop even brought the whole school rosaries so that we can pray together.

Second, Bishop Barnes is a real team player. Most people think of themselves when they are in a position as high as bishop. But Bishop Barnes is not like that. He said himself that together we have expanded our Catholic community to 1.7 million people. He didn’t say “I”, he said “together.”

I am sure all of us will be sad to see him go. I just hope the new bishop can live up to his standards.

God bless,
