Parent Letter Faith Reflection

One of the things I’ve seen online is the question, “What will you do when the quarantine ends?” Having already been thinking about this when Kate posed this same question for the Women’s Rejuvenate group’s Wednesday evening Zoom meeting, I was ready. My answer focused on the small businesses my mum and I enjoy patronizing on the weekly day trips we take during the summer and other vacation times. In particular, my mum and I are looking forward to being able to go to Semolina Artisanal Pasta, our favorite pasta producer in Pasadena, plus stops at both Fosselman’s and Bert & Rocky’s ice cream shops on our way home—yes, the plan is to go to both.

Having something to look forward to helps us get through a challenge at hand, that challenge currently being quarantined. Hope sustains us through difficult times, helping us to see something more than the bad situation around us. Hope helps us to know things, somehow, and at some point, will get better. So, what will you do when we can resume activities again?

In the meantime, while waiting to resume a post quarantine life of going places in person, there are a many events and other things we can join online. Sports teams have done Zoom meetings with their fans (it sounded fun, but no I did not join the Dodgers’ Zoom meeting), small businesses have taken some of their classes on line (Lot22 Olive Oil Co in Redlands has been posting more recipes and how to videos on using their olive oils and vinegars), many museums have expanded their online offerings, among a few places to mention. Our parish and diocese is offering activities online as well.

Last week I mentioned that Cinema for the Soul will be meeting on Zoom tomorrow night at their usual 7:00p time (click here for more info: https://theholynameofjesus.org/cinema ), but did you know that Holy Name offers a daily Rosary at 2:30 (Mon-Sat), story time with Mrs. Grozak, and a week day morning reflection with Deacon Steve? Check out their webpage for times. Our diocese also offers many things online during this time. Tonight there is a Q & A with our coadjutor Bishop Rojas. Look for the Be Strong & Take Heart link on their Facebook page and join tonight at 6:30. Tomorrow, May 1st, Bishop Rojas will lead us in a reconsecration of our diocese to Mary at 5:00p (English) and 6:00p (Spanish).

Bishop Essay

 by Quintin

I was recently informed that our bishop is retiring. When I first heard this it didn’t really affect me. But as I thought about it I realized I really didn’t know bishop Barnes. My teacher, Mrs. Alhadef, had given us an assignment to write about him and the things we liked. I didn’t know anything and I didn’t like this because I would loved to have met him. With the new bishop I would like to change this. I would like to meet him, or at least see him at our school. I would also like to do fun activities with the new bishop as a way to get to know him. As for Bishop Barnes I would like to say good luck in your retirement.

 God bless,

Mrs. Alhadef
