Parent Letter Faith Reflection

I know that God is using me in ways beyond my comprehension - Servant of God Thea Bowman

We all have talents, it’s that sometimes we need to be bold in using them. Sometimes our confidence isn’t strong thus keeping us back. It doesn’t matter if our talent is similar to someone else; we each use them differently, producing something that only we could. Yo-Yo Ma is a great musician, but so is our own Mr. Turner. His music is different than Ma’s and we appreciate that we have different musicians with different ways of presenting music.

Sister Thea Bowman was a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration. She had a beautiful voice and a spirited personality. Sr. Thea was also bold in using her talents. When she gave a speech to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in 1989 she not only talked to the bishops in attendance, she also broke out into song! She used her talents boldly and people responded.

Sr. Thea died in 1990 of cancer at the age of 52 not focusing on her illness but on using her talents to draw others to God through music. Her cause for canonization was begun in 2018.

Put the talents you have to work. How God is using them may be beyond our comprehension but we know that all things work for good for those who love the Lord (Romans 8:28).

Miss Morrison may be happily busy being the new 4th grade teacher but that doesn't mean Cinema for the Soul has been set aside. Please join Thursday, 24 September at 7pm on Zoom (go to Community/Cinema on the Holy Name of Jesus website to sign up for Cinema to receive the zoom code). This month is A Street Cat Named Bob about a recovering drug addict singing on the streets when a cat disrupts his life. I hear the music is good.

God bless,
