Parent Letter Faith Reflection

Even though I worked hard at times it was always magical… I enjoyed [it] because we were creating something that would make people smile and lift their hearts - Floyd Norman, Disney animator

Last week Mikayla told us creativity is the power of imagination and wisdom. We also saw last week how this intersection of imagination and wisdom can play out when Fr. Gino talked about Disney animator Frank Thomas.

To recap, Fr. Gino told us Thomas was one of the animators working on the Disney movie Lady and the Tramp. Walt Disney didn’t like the dog spaghetti eating scene; he thought it looked silly, not romantic, it didn’t look like how dogs really ate spaghetti. Thomas disagreed. As an animator he saw it through different eyes so he went about animating the entire scene to show Disney it would work. Convinced, the scene was kept in and has become one of the most iconic movie scenes ever.

When we trust in our God-given talents and share them we have the opportunity to reach into the life of another, potentially lifting them up, making them smile, and perhaps, even encouraging them to develop their own talents.
