Parent Letter Faith Reflection

If we are to bear the fruit of righteousness, justice, and mercy, if we want our mission as disciples to take place, and to have a beautiful presence in the world, just like the yeast that raises the dough,...like the salt that gives flavor, we need to be united with Jesus. - Archbishop Scicluna (Malta)

The Gospel this past Sunday was the reading about the vine and branches (John 15:1-8). The vine and branches need each other if it wants to bear fruit; the vine doesn’t bear the fruit, and the branches need the vine to supply the nourishment that will bring about the fruit. And like the vine and branches in the Gospel, when we stay connected to the vine it’s amazing what we can do.

With this in mind Fr. Erik had Monica Aguilar, Director of Pastoral Ministries, take over his column in the parish bulletin last week to show what the Holy Name of Jesus community (which includes our school) did in the face of a pandemic. Spoiler alert: we stayed rooted to the vine and were able to flourish during this time, even as we carried a load of stress on our collective shoulders. Staying rooted not only allowed us to get through a difficult time together, but because of how we responded, will bear more fruit in the future Monica believes.

As Monica said about our community, “It is a story of faith, truth, and love that comes from loving one another as he commands.” Read her column to see what we were able to do together because we stayed rooted to the Vine: https://d2y1pz2y630308.cloudfront.net/5636/bulletins/20210502.pdf
