Parent Letter Faith Reflection

If we are intentional in our living of Advent, we can experience the joy and true meaning of Christmas/Si somos intencionales en vivir el Adviento, podemos vivir el gozo y el verdadero significicado de la Navidad. - Bishop Rojas, Thanksgiving letter 2021

We come into this last of week of school before Christmas break sad over the news of the destruction caused by the hurricane in Mayfield Kentucky and other areas. We also come into this week seeing how we are community even in the face of difficult situations.

Not long after the tornado ripped through Mayfield Jimmy Finch was loading up his grill and packing his vehicle with as much food as he could. He drove about an hour and half, parked himself in the middle of the town and started feeding people until he ran out of food. Finch, now seen by millions on social media, when asked if he owned a restaurant or something, smiled, shook his head, and simply said, “It just needed to be done.”

During an Angelus speech this month Pope Francis said the Advent season is about asking ourselves what we can do for others in a concrete way. The seed of our faith planted in our hearts makes the question and answer something we don’t have to think about but helps us to simply know what to do and respond. For Finch that was to get out his grill and start feeding people, for us as a school community that is to help a family have presents to open on Christmas day.

Have a most Merry Christmas, a wonderful New Year, and plant seeds.

Showcasing SHA talent: Though only on paper, 7th gr. Isabel’s lunch looks as delicious as Mr. Finch's must have been.
