God changed history by knocking at the door of Mary’s heart...Today, renewed by God’s forgiveness, may we too knock at the door of her immaculate heart. - Pope Francis on day of Consecration of Russia and Ukraine, 25 March 2022
“If we want the world to change,” Pope Francis said on the day of Consecration of Russia and Ukraine, we must first change our hearts. For this to happen Francis asks us to turn to our Blessed Mother, allowing Mary to “take us by the hand,” so that she, “the Mother whom the Lord has given us, may protect and watch over us.”
In this month dedicated to Mary we can imitate Pope Francis and let her loving heart “move us to compassion and inspire us to open our doors to care for our brothers and sisters…”
Turning to Our Blessed Mother throughout this month we can reflect on these last words from the prayer of Consecration: Through your intercession [Mary], may God’s mercy be poured out on the earth and the gentle rhythm of peace return to mark our days. Our Lady of the “Fiat”, on whom the Holy Spirit descended, restore among us the harmony that comes from God. May you, our “living fountain of hope”, water the dryness of our hearts. In your womb Jesus took flesh; help us to foster the growth of communion. You once trod the streets of our world; lead us now on the paths of peace.
