Parent Letter Faith Reflection

“I do not even know which roads to take for the journey.” Tobit answered his son, “Find yourself a trustworthy person who will make the journey with you.”/”No sé el camino a tomar para el viaje.” Tobit le contest a su hijo,”Busca un persona de confianza que te acompañe en el viaje.” - Tobit 5:2-3

To go on a pilgrimage is a fruitful way to seek God. When we go on pilgrimage we leave behind the comforts of home, and sometimes even our language and culture, as we seek GodA pilgrimage, by allowing us to step away from our everyday commitments and concerns, can open up opportunities for a renewed encounter with the Almighty. On a pilgrimage we open the door to discovering things we wouldn’t have otherwise. A pilgrimage, in other words, can be transforming.

A pilgrimage is often a journey we take as an act of praise and thanksgiving to God. It does not necessitate traveling across the globe, though there is something unique about the experience of going far away that can enhance the experience. When we go on a pilgrimage, Pope Francis says, we need to go “with an open heart and give ourselves time to adjust” to where we are. We should also be prepared for a “newfound peace and greater awareness of God’s presence in our lives upon our return.” A pilgrimage can change the way we look at each day.

During the school year a long pilgrimage is not going to work for us but strengthening our relationship with God is the greatest gift of a pilgrimage and we can be transformed whether we make a long journey or take a single day of reflection alone.
