Parent Letter Faith Reflection

This is the place of our rest and delight

though Saint Jane Chantal said this as she entered religious life many say this when they are out in nature

The Season of Creation 2022 came to an end earlier this week on the Feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi. As we conclude this month long focus on the environment and our relationship to it we can continue to ask ourselves how we can do better to keep our planet healthy.

In Laudato Sí, Pope Francis’ encyclical about caring for our common home, Francis turns to Patriarch Bartholomew as he draws our attention to the “ethical and spiritual roots of environmental problems, which require that we look for solutions not only in technology but in a change of humanity; otherwise we would be dealing merely with symptoms.”  The Patriarch, Francis continues, “asks us to replace consumption with sacrifice, greed with generosity, wastefulness with a spirit of sharing, an asceticism which ‘“entails learning to give, and not simply to give up. It is a way of loving, of moving gradually away from what I want to what God’s world needs. It is liberation from fear, greed and compulsion”’.[17]
