Parent Letter Faith Reflection

The Rosary is by its nature a prayer for peace, since it consists in the contemplation of Christ, the Prince of Peace, the one who is “our peace” (Eph 2:14).

October is the month dedicated to the Rosary and when I came across an old article about the rosary it caught my attention because I found the premise intriguing. This month is the 20th anniversary of John Paul II adding the Luminous Mysteries and I liked the author's call for adding another set of mysteries even if they won’t become official. I liked her reasoning of adding a personal decade based on our own experience, even if only for our private use, and ran with it. Camille focused on healing, something she felt is much needed in our world today, and I will share her suggestions with two changes - I used Luke's passage for the second mystery, and the fifth mystery I kept with a human healing. To read her full reflections for each mystery please go to the January 26, 2021 U.S Catholic article.

The First Healing Mystery: Jesus restores the outcast to community (“Were not ten made clean? But the other nine, where are they?” Luke 17:17)

The Second Healing Mystery: Jesus rewards the woman of courage (“Daughter, your faith has saved you, go in peace.” Luke 8: 48)

The Third Healing Mystery: Jesus frees the imperiled child (“Lord, have mercy on my son, for...he suffers terribly.” Matthew 17:15)

The Fourth Healing Mystery: Jesus heals the person suffering mental distress (“But Jesus rebuked him, saying, ‘Be silent, and come out of him!’” Mark 1:25)

The Fifth Healing Mystery: Jesus heals the person with a physical disability (“Go wash in the Pool of Siloam…” So he went and washed, and came back able to see. John 9: 7)

Showcasing SHA talent: In addition to praying the rosary this month, Emma, and most of 4th grade, is rooting for the Dodgers. Go Dodgers!
