Parent Letter Faith Reflection

Thus, in all of you God is to be glorified through Jesus Christ. - 1 Peter 4:11a

The parish theme for this year is “This is My Body,” focusing on Jesus in the Eucharist. When Jesus says “this is my Body,” he also means us, the community of believers.

On hearing the new parish theme it made me think of something Pope Francis had said at World Youth Day, in Lisbon, Portugal, earlier this month. It seemed fitting as we begin a new school year: Charity is the origin and goal of our Christian journey, and your presence, which is a concrete reminder of “love in action”, helps us remember the meaning of what we do and how we are to do it./La caridad, de hecho, es el origen y la meta del camino cristiano, y la presencia de ustedes, realidad concreta de "amor en acción", nos ayuda a no olvidar la ruta, el sentido de lo que estamos haciendo siempre.

Your presence—students, parents, teachers, staff—is our concrete reminder that charity is the root and goal of what we do at SHA. Your presence reminds us of what we are here to do and why we do it: We are the Body of Christ—we are here to enrich each other and our communities. As our mural on the wall above the office windows states: Be it known to all who enter here that Christ is the reason for this school, the unseen but ever present teacher in its classes, the model of its faculty, and the inspiration of its students.

Thank you for being here and may we have a great school year.

Showcasing SHA talent: This collage that five 8th graders did last year is a fun way to get our year started.
