Parent Letter Faith Reflection

Last week 7th grade was in charge of our prayer service while our priests were at their convocation. Today we will share the reflection Emily, our Religion Commissioner, wrote:

Today in the first reading (1 Kings 3:10-14) we hear about God speaking to Solomon. God basically tells him that he has been a good person. Solomon didn’t ask to be rich or live a long time, or for his enemies to be destroyed; all he wanted was to be honest and fair.

You see people who are greedy and do not honor our Lord in ways that we should may not be well respected later. Solomon is not that kind of man though, he was a loyal person to God and I feel like that is such an important message because I feel like we should strive to be more like Solomon. The passage says that God will make Solomon rich and respected later, and give him great things if he keeps living his life in a good way. So even if we feel like we are not getting what we deserve now, it may come later—you have to wait—and you have to keep being a good Catholic Christian.

In the Gospel reading (Luke 8: 4-8) Jesus tells us a parable about a farmer planting seeds, and it doesn’t seem fair that none of the plants were thriving. Eventually nothing was working. But you have to wait a little longer than you think because in the end a few seeds did fall on good ground and produced more than enough.

Sometimes I feel like in life we take things for granted and when we don’t get what we want we automatically get upset—no ifs, ands, or buts. But we need to take the time to just stop and relax because in the end good things will come out of your everyday life at the appropriate time.

Showcasing SHA talent: Maybe the plants Emily talks about did well because bees like what Cali, Fiona, and Max in 5th drew were busy pollinating.
