Parent Letter Faith Reflection

Faith in the Resurrection calls us into a bold new way of loving, knowing that with God’s help such a love can never be conquered. - Sister Mary M. McGlone, CSJ

Last week we started with Jesus’ greeting to his disciples Easter morning and pulled from the Beatitudes in looking at how Jesus, by giving us peace, enables us to be peace among chaos. In doing this we make the message of Easter real.

This week we turn to the reading from the 5th Sunday of Lent to help the Easter message take root in us; Jesus brings us peace but still, things get in the way. This passage from John 12 tells us that “unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of what; but if it dies, it produces much fruit.”

This prayer I came across can aide us in dying to self so, filled with peace, we can produce much fruit: Each of us is like a grain of what planted by God / And just as a grain of what must die so as to produce a harvest, / so we too must die to self in order to bear the fruits of love. This dying to self is a gradual process and happens in little ways. / Every act of humility involves dying to pride. / Every act of courage involves dying to cowardice. / Every act of kindness involves dying to cruelty. / Every act of love involves dying to selfishness. / Thus the false self dies, and the true self, made in God’s image, / is born and nurtured

Showcasing SHA talent: Not only does 5th grade Ethan’s tree produce
much fruit, he also adds some horticultural information.
