Principal's Letter Faith Reflection

Why are you downcast my soul, why do you groan within me? Hope in God, I will praise him still, my
saviour and my God/¿Qué te abate, alma mia, por qué gimes en mí? Pon tu confianza en Dios que úle
cantaré a mi Dios salvador.—Psalm/Salmo 42:12

In talking about Venerable Bruno Lanteri, an Italian priest who founded The Oblates of the Virgin Mary, the Oblates wrote, "Prayer is at the heart of hope. It is a relationship and real communication between you and God." Knowing how important having hope is Venerable Lanteri would not let a person leave confession or spiritual direction without giving them hope and confidence in God.

Blessed Columba Marmion, the third abbot of Maredsous Abbey in Belgium, also knew the importance of prayer and hope. He wrote: The principal author of our perfection and holiness is God himself, and prayer keeps the soul in frequent contact with God. It ignites and after having lit it, stays in the soul like a hearth, in which the fire of love always burns, even if in latent form. As soon as a soul is put in direct communication with the divine life it is as if a powerful breath set it on fire, lifted  it, and filled it with a wonderful superabundance. The supernatural life of a soul is valued by its union with God through Jesus Christ, in faith and love. This love must produce acts; but these acts, to be produced in a regular and intense way, require the life of prayer. It can be asserted that, in the ordinary way, our progress in divine love practically depends on our prayer life.
