Principal's Letter Faith Reflection

Birds are mentioned about 300 times in Scripture, symbolizing the Holy Spirit, peace, and freedom. Birds also symbolize divine love or care. With Valentine’s Day tomorrow we look at how God loves and cares for us. In Matthew 6:26 we hear Jesus talk about God caring for all creation, no matter how small, when he says, “Look at the birds in the sky, they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them.”

Divine love comes into focus when Jesus uses the symbol of a mother hen to show his deep love for people: How many times I yearned to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her young under her wings—Matthew 23:37. Maya Angelou had it right when said: A bird does not sing because it has an answer; it sings because it has a song; may we give praise when we hear birds brightly chirping.
