Parent Letter Faith Reflection

“Being faithful involves the capacity for change,” Pope Francis said in a video message in November. But we know change is not easy even when it’s something we want to do—think of how many times a New Year’s resolution has already started to collect dust before the month is over. Add in fear or deep-rooted prejudices and it doesn’t get easier. However, we can’t be a Church that goes forth, a Church that is missionary if we can’t change, if we can’t let go of our fears and prejudices. We can’t truly love Jesus until we can embrace all people as our brothers and sisters. The holiday this past Monday, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. (and the SLE activity we did last Friday), gave us that opportunity to face these very things head on and see all people in light of the Gospel message of love.

Our 7th grader today would have made an excellent speech write for Dr. King, she knows very well what we need to do so that we can, indeed, one day see the peace of Christ reign in all corners of the world.

Religion Essay

As a Catholic-Christian, we live out our faith in many different ways. Most of these ways are good and healthy, but some problems and conflicts have come out of them.

As followers of God, we are all called to join together and be one with the Lord. However, there have been disagreement about many things Catholic-Christians do, including praying to Mary. Many Christians say that Catholics are worshiping Mary, even though we are just giving our Blessed Mother love. I feel conflicts like this are dividing Christians.

All Christians should be focused on worshiping God, not criticizing others. If we come together, the conflicts we have can be resolved. We can do this by simply explaining and listening to each other. Instead of calling out each other’s differences, we can focus on being the Church. We can focus on coming together. We can focus on loving and becoming one with God. As it says in Proverbs 17:17, “A friend loves at all times.”

In talking about embracing all people, that includes the unborn. The next healing Mass for life, celebrated by Fr. Manny Cardoza, pastor of Our Lady of Hope parish, will be Saturday January 27, 2018 at 9:00 am near Planned Parenthood on Commercenter Dr. in San Bernardino. All are welcome to attend.

   Thank you.   Mrs. Alhadef
