Faith Reflection:  Mercy—The Beauty of Our Young

If you were at Mass here at Holy Name this pass weekend then you saw the short video that kicked off the 2018 Diocesan Development Fund (DDF) Annual Appeal. While many of us may have been focused on watching the great job SHA alum and volunteer Jessica Tucker did, as well as looking for other familiar faces, the We Are One theme probably still came through clearly. As we’ve moved from the Christmas season with our eyes fixed on the Star that gently invites us to a deeper, stronger relationship with Jesus, January has brought into focus seeing all people (including the unborn) in light of the Gospel message of love. And now, with this year’s DDF theme, we continue to “seize this moment by committing our hearts, our minds, and our souls to meet, know and live Christ as we work together to fully realize the vision, mission and sacramental life of the Church of San Bernardino and Riverside,” as Bishop Barnes wrote in his DDF letter. Our 7th grader essayist carries these themes forward, nudging us, along with our Bishop, to go “above and beyond what is merely being asked of us to be truly alive in [our commitment].”

Spread the Good News to the Youth and Old

 by Natalee

Decades have gone by and each one is different. In this decade we need to spread the good news of God to the youth and the old. Us Catholics can take our Sunday Gospel we have listened to in Mass and tell everyone all about it outside the Church! We can reflect about the Mass to our families and ask the priest questions about his homilies and how he proclaims the message of God.

A concern I have with how Catholics live our their faith is that they support things in our culture that are not Christian. For example, abortion. A way to improve this is to follow God’s law. It is important to also vote for someone that follows God’s law too.

I can better live my faith by not just going to Mass, but by being active in Mass as well. It is important to participate in the songs, responses to the priest, and to receive Communion. The Church can help myself and others by actively participating in the Mass.

A very important way to keep my faith living and active is to definitely go to Mass, follow the Ten Commandments, and pray to God as many times as I can. To help my faith become stronger is to have a better relationship with God, and again that means to pray more often, read the Bible more, and follow God’s law.

Catholic Schools Week is next week. There will be many wonderful activities going on all week. Two that I would like to call your attention two are our talent show on Tuesday, January 30th at 9:00 and our Grandparents Day Mass on Friday, February 2nd at 10:00. Please join us and celebrate our faith through our talents and our families.

   Thank you.  Mrs. Alhadef
