Welcome to LEAP (Learn-Explore-Achieve-Program)/Tadpoles for the 2018-2019 school year!

My name is Kathy Seter and I am so blessed to be the LEAP/Tadpoles coordinator/teacher.  This is my 13th year at Sacred Heart Academy. I received my undergraduate degree at California State University, Fullerton and completed my post-graduate education at the University of California, Riverside. In addition, I received my Certification in the Education of the Gifted and Talented from UCR in December 2014. Prior to SHA, I was employed by the Redlands Unified School District as the 4th-5th grade Intervention teacher at Lugonia Elementary School and as a substititue teacher throughout the district grades K-12, including Special Education and RISE (Redlands Independent Study Education) program. I am also a member of the California Association for the Gifted (CAG), "an organization of educators and parents who strive to improve education for individuals who demonstrate giftedness."

I was blessed to attend Catholic schools (St. Margaret Mary, Chino and Pomona Catholic Girls High Scool) and strongly believe in the value of a faith-filled education.  I have been a proud Catholic school parent since 1996.  My son, Jimmy, is an SHA, Aquinas High School, Marquette University graduate. My daughter, Elizabeth, is an SHA and Aquinas High School graduate, currently attending Grand Canyon University.

I am an active member of The Holy Name of Jesus community and enjoy various activities: sporting events, reading, concerts, movies, travel, and time with family and friends.

Under the direction of our principal Mrs. Williams LEAP was launched in the Fall of 2012. LEAP is a hands-on, enrichment math program for grades 2-6. I am excited to take on this venture to provide our students with the best possible education in a faith-filled environment.

5th graders working hard in their "Toolbox" (an interactive notebook that reinforces standards).
6th grade LEAP students use their knowledge of positive/negative numbers and absolute value for their Extreme Temperatures activity. On iPads students researched the record high and low temperatures of a given US state and graphed their findings on a number line. Great work!

4th graders use their knowledge of ordering large numbers in this fun activity!

4th Grade LEAP

4th grade LEAP students are creating a personal Toolbox as they learn important standards. Liam shows us how to use his place value entry. Good job Liam!
3rd Grade LEAP students have begun Multiplication Bootcamp. Today we learned 6 x 6, 36 lollipop licks!

Welcome

A heartfelt welcome to all of our returning and new LEAP students. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year!

Today your child received some information regarding LEAP. Please take a moment to review and let me know if you have any questions.
Please note that the Remind App is for parent use only. My user agreement states that I will not use this app to communicate with children under the age of 13. If a student signs up, I will need to block them from the account.

Thank You!
Mrs. Seter

A bittersweet day today in 6th grade LEAP. We celebrated our last math class together. I have had the honor of calling these kids "my students" (for some we have been together for 4 years!) I wish these amazing young people success in all their future endeavors. I am truly blessed xoxo

Internet Problems

Hello LEAP Families,
I am sorry that I have been unable to post homework this week. Unfortunately we have been having internet connection problems. Again, my apologies!
Thanks, Mrs. Seter

5th Grade Legos Project

Hello 5th Grade Families,
We will be working on a project next week. I only have a limited amount of Legos. If your student is able to bring some to class (tomorrow or Monday) in a ziplock bag or box, we would really appreciate it! I will make sure that student Legos are returned to the rightful owners. Thanks so much!
