Welcome to 3rd grade!!! I have been teaching 3rd grade at Sacred Heart Academy since 2005. I graduated from Cal State San Bernardino in 2002 with a B.A. in Liberal Studies and a minor in music and I earned my teaching credential from the University of Redlands.  I have been a parishioner at Holy Name of Jesus since 1978.  My husband, Roger, and I were married here.  My son attended Sacred Heart Academy from kindergarten through eighth grade!   So, needless to say, my family is very committed to this parish and school.  I truly enjoy teaching 3rd grade and try to make learning fun, engaging, and relevant.

Novel Study

Today we started a class novel.  We are reading The BFG by Roald Dahl.  Some of the students saw the movie this summer.   Each student was given a copy of the book to follow along in and use to complete the assignments.   Each day I will be reading a chapter to the class and the students will then complete a worksheet for that chapter.  If you have any questions about this novel or the assignments,  please contact me.

Welcome to 3rd Grade!

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year!  We have had a wonderful start to the school year.  It has been fun meeting each student and getting to know them.  I know that this will be an amazing school year.  I hope the students are as excited as I am!!!

A few end of the year things

Religion test tomorrow.  Chapter 23.  Students completed review yesterday and brought home their books to study.

For next week: please have your student bring to school two (2) plastic grocery bags and one (1) magic eraser cleaning sponge.  We will start clearing up our room and we need these items.  Please have your student bring these items in by Tuesday.   Thank you!!!

Final school Mass:  I am asking for parents to come and sit with our class at our last school Mass on Friday, June 10th at 8:45.  Mrs, Kruger and myself will be altar serving and won't be sitting with the class.  Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!!!

STAR Testing

Last week your student took both STAR Math and STAR Reading tests.  The results were sent home last Friday in a white envelope.  If your student has not given it to you, please ask them for it.  If you have any questions about the tests or how to read the results,  please let me know.

Symposium

We are so excited!!!  Our annual Symposium is on Thursday!  Here is information you need to know about Thursday.
  • We are working on the biography during class time.  On Monday we worked on finishing the final copy of the biography.  On Tuesday and Wednesday we will be putting the individual displays together.  If your student does not finish by Wednesday afternoon, they will bring it home to finish.
  • Students are invited to come in costume to the symposium.  They can come as their artist, as someone from the artist time period, as someone/something that is important to the artist, or even as a piece of art!  If they come in costume, they will get extra credit!
  • Students will get credit for attending the symposium.  They will, however not be penalized if they don't attend.  (But I hope you do so you can see the fun art projects and hard work the students have done.). I am asking that each student sign up for a shift to be a docent in our class.  Times will be 5:00-5:30; 5:30-6:00; 6:00-6:30; or 6:30-7:00.  Please tell your student what time you would like for them to sign up.  If anyone could help clean up and straighten up our classroom from 7-7:30, that would be great!!!

School Rosary

Please join us on Wednesday, May 11th at 8:45.  The 3rd and 4th grade classes will be leading the school in the Living Rosary.  It is wonderful to experience the rosary grow as it is being said.  I hope to see many of you there!

House Keeping Notes

Welcome back!!!  I hope everyone had a relaxed, blessing filled Easter vacation!!!  These are just a few notes to get us started on this last part of the school year.
1.) The staff was asked to make sure to enforce the uniform policy.  Please review the uniform policy in the Parent Handbook, pages 39-40.  Some of the things that I have noticed is the different colored hair accessories for the girls, and sometimes the shoes are out of uniform.  For the boys, the biggest issue is the pants.  Several boys are wearing cargo pants, which are not uniform.  So please take a look at the Parent Handbook and check your student's uniform before leaving the house.  Thank you!

2.) Could you please send your student to school with an eraser (with either their name or number on it)?   It doesn't matter to me what kind they use.  Most of our pencils are sans erasures.

3.). Our class is leading the school mass this Wednesday.  This will be the last mass our class will lead this school year.  Please join us at 8:45 if you can.

4.) Chaoter 15 Religion test is due back, reviewed and signed, tomorrow.

Thank you!

Please go to the photo albums and view the 2016 Charlotte Huck Art Festival album to see today's field trip.

Field trip drivers

We will be going to the University of Redlands on Monday and Asistencia Villa on Tuesday.  Our drivers for Monday are Mrs. Lotz, Mrs. Cases, Ms. Bennett, Mrs. Rodriguez, Mrs. Hector, Mrs. Barbera, Mr. Blatchford, Mrs. Thompson, and Mr. Espinoza.  Please be at the classroom by 8:30 as we need to leave at 8:45.

Tuesday's drivers include Mrs. Lotz, Mrs. Rodriguez, Mrs. Hector, Mrs. Barbera, Mr. Blatchford, Ms. Bennett, and Mr. Herries.  We will need to do some shuttling of students because we don't have enough seats for one trip there.  Drivers please be at the classroom by 10:00.  Thank you!!!

Room Parent Change

There has been a change with our room parents this year.  I would like to thank Lizzette Barbera for all the time, effort, and support she has provided to this class.  At this time she asked to step down because of other time commitments.  Stepping in to help with the class is Jeannette Stephens.  She has already been helping with class parties this year.  I know she will be a great addition to our room parent team!

Drivers Needed

We will need drivers in March for two different trips.  The dates are Monday, March 14th from around 8:30 - 11:00 and Tuesday, March 15th from 10:00-11:30.  on Monday we will be going to the University of Redlands and on Tuesday we will be going to Asistencia convalescent home.  If you are available for either or both days, please send a note with your student or email me at [email protected].   Thanks in advance!
