Welcome to LEAP (Learn-Explore-Achieve-Program)/Tadpoles for the 2018-2019 school year!

My name is Kathy Seter and I am so blessed to be the LEAP/Tadpoles coordinator/teacher.  This is my 13th year at Sacred Heart Academy. I received my undergraduate degree at California State University, Fullerton and completed my post-graduate education at the University of California, Riverside. In addition, I received my Certification in the Education of the Gifted and Talented from UCR in December 2014. Prior to SHA, I was employed by the Redlands Unified School District as the 4th-5th grade Intervention teacher at Lugonia Elementary School and as a substititue teacher throughout the district grades K-12, including Special Education and RISE (Redlands Independent Study Education) program. I am also a member of the California Association for the Gifted (CAG), "an organization of educators and parents who strive to improve education for individuals who demonstrate giftedness."

I was blessed to attend Catholic schools (St. Margaret Mary, Chino and Pomona Catholic Girls High Scool) and strongly believe in the value of a faith-filled education.  I have been a proud Catholic school parent since 1996.  My son, Jimmy, is an SHA, Aquinas High School, Marquette University graduate. My daughter, Elizabeth, is an SHA and Aquinas High School graduate, currently attending Grand Canyon University.

I am an active member of The Holy Name of Jesus community and enjoy various activities: sporting events, reading, concerts, movies, travel, and time with family and friends.

Under the direction of our principal Mrs. Williams LEAP was launched in the Fall of 2012. LEAP is a hands-on, enrichment math program for grades 2-6. I am excited to take on this venture to provide our students with the best possible education in a faith-filled environment.

3rd graders were recently awarded a certificate to honor their mastery of basic multiplication facts. Super work kiddos!
6th grade LEAP students proudly display their "Extreme Temperatures" project. Students used iPads to research the record high and low temperatures of various states in the US. They constructed number lines and graphed their findings. Great Job 6th LEAP kids!

3rd Grade Multiplication Bootcamp

Greetings 3rd Grade LEAP Families,
Our Multiplication Bootcamp should conclude on Tuesday, September 20. We will end with a final Ripper test to assess all the great math fact knowledge we have gained over the last few weeks. The students have worked very hard and I am so proud of them!
Enjoy your weekend,
Mrs. Seter

LEAP Web Page

Thank you to all who have returned the web site letter. I confirmed subscription using the email that you provided on the form. I was not able to find a few names, so I physically added them myself. You should begin receiving notifications this evening.
If you have not returned the form, please do so by Friday, Sept. 9.
Thanks, Mrs. Seter

Today 5th grade LEAP used iPads to complete the Interactive Student component of our new math series. So cool to witness these kids taking ownership of their education!
LEAP 3rd graders are working hard during our "Multiplication Bootcamp." We are using a program called Rhymes 'n' Times to learn rhymes as we master multiplication facts. Ask your child about the 3 rhymes we learned this week.

Website Letter

Today your students were given information on how to subscribe to the LEAP page on the SHA website. Please complete form and return next week. Upon return, your child will receive 10 extra credit points.
Thank you and have a wonderful weekend.
Mrs. Seter

Welcome

Greetings LEAP Families,
Today I sent home a note with some important information regarding LEAP. Most grades will begin LEAP tomorrow, Tuesday Aug. 30. Sixth grade will not begin until Wednesday Aug. 31 due to the junior high meeting tomorrow.

If possible, students are asked to bring a spiral notebook (not composition please) and a personal set of ear buds. If your student was in LEAP last year, I have kept their "Toolbox" notebooks, so no need to purchase another spiral notebook. We will simply continue where we left off. Please have these items by Friday, Sept. 2. Thank you!

Please feel free to contact me with questions. I am so excited to begin a wonderful school year.
Blessings, Mrs. Seter

A bittersweet day in 6th grade LEAP. We celebrated our very last day of math class together. I have been honored and privileged to work with this amazing group of young people (for some this was our 4th year together). I wish them all the best as they venture to 7th grade Honors math. Blessings to each and every one of you!
Love, Mrs. Seter
