Aquinas student Allie McKenzie shot and produced this video of three interviews conducted by SHA students in March 2013, as part of their elective class in Media.

what is your full name is Manuel and needles the middle name was name that to my great-grandfather  what is your part in your ministry  currently I am chaplain at Loma Linda University Medical Center and I visit patients in the children's units and so little little newborn baby all the way to basically your teenager and we go visit every day and just check up on and check up on their parents and you know it's always really hard to see your little baby doll sick so we we support them we help them and we pray with them it's awesome because the kids get better so wait times why did you become a  why did I become freeze this is a great question a long time ago when I was growing up I had a lot of anger my heart and I was a very unhappy person  reason I have a lot of anger today I didn't like forgiveness forgiveness being with somebody that was. winter in my life and that's why you had this anger you know a bed always in a bad mood I just saw all my life was really you know upset all the time pretty critical of the time not happy with anyone if it wasn't my way forget you you're crazy and I'm finally I decided that I need to change my life I told her freaking the Bible and the Bible Jesus inside the same love your enemies and I like whatever these is you crazy when I can love my enemies that other and so I thought he was kind of crazy I wanted to read more  headed looking more diseases than. You know my patron saint is Saint Jude and the only reason I chose Saint Judas because he was like a cool name that song Back in the Day call a Jude by the Beatles sounds like that's cool just hit me one thing about him until what happened was I saw her and kind of need some research on him and died like a really awful brutal dead like he got the club club and knocked down and then we put they basically stuck in accident head you going to follow me you have to go all the way for me and still a little by little other changing like you know people noticing or noticing dreams that I was a priest not like Jesus I think not I want to be a teacher for long time left little by little people to start asking me if I'm going to be freezing and I first I could say no for like a long time and finally after about 4 years I decided that to be a freak because God is the most important thing in my life and only him connector and now will bring me true happiness and so you can see I went from being poly mean the police I try to be as nice as I can and a piece with people when did he become free on May 23rd 2009 and in about 2 months 2 and 1/2 2 months 3 months before years as a priest and I got our day in here at San Cathedral of Our Lady of the groceries Murphy nurse it took me about seven years seven years before freezing but I was in college between calcium San Bernardino to school in San Antonio for 13 years so I took the long way so sometimes it's like 10 years and it's little more than that how do you treat an officer officer is an awesome at level 2 servers we are there too to help officers in to teach someone to keep them but always the kindness so like when I was an altar server and I messed up and said the priest was very nice and for me and someone messes up see what I mess up you know sometimes I do the wrong thing or like you next so you know what if I messed up how am I going to be like doing all that that's all and if we keep them well and we sometimes love I'm giving father Ed Garcia he was a member of the lost to let order which is an order or a lot of them are from the Philippines and and so what he was such a great priest very humble very faithful to the people you go visit the sick on a daily basis you took the time do it send me whatever life is like cuz I thought it was all the time the best website to play basketball the same thing in the cemetery they lot of lot of sports and videogames now I got the weed player talks about the new Pope Francis very excited  when you got elected is that his name and I was like and very unexpected but you know this man I was very nervous for him because he was out there to standing there and I'll give you nervous or coming to pick my guys laugh or smile or waiver do something doesn't understand their but as soon as he smiles  I love because I saw the compassion I saw the love the Simplicity and in his lies in the fact that you are very simple cross the fact that he the people of God to ask to to pray God to bless him and that's true so much humility that he fouled that he didn't you know where is there the red kind of Kate let you know that they wear normally in heat even wear it and usually wear a stole you like a piece were sold and he wore it very briefly and then show that he wants to be with you I'm really excited I know he is done a lot of things for the foreign artists in Argentina and I just see the love and yes I give thanks to God I really am I'm getting very emotional I can almost are the crying with you when he has to pay for him and I just think he's such a holy Matt from Frozen singing by the way I'm excited map everything went being a priest what I think for the darkness celebrating the mass I love the mass and you know if you start with me I do it with a lot of the Susie it says not words for me like you know what this is a celebration and you know we like to party reasonable party party party and saw this little **** into the celebration God loves us so much that he wants to be with us that you saved our lives and that when you're praising the Lord and in the second leading people I love you and people why because I learned and I am humbled by the space that people have cuz honestly you don't people listen sale father you're so much older than me and then no we are watching together but I see Sis love and humility and faith in people and sometimes it is inspiring to try to be a better person because of that and hello Jesus Christ I am Anastasia in this  and you are real Rin? Hilton hotel LAX what are some of your responsibilities as president as president I need to make sure that the council is doing their job that you presented is doing what they're supposed to do we're on our best behavior and setting the example for everyone what do you like about being the present life Austin Council in general helps me to grow and become a better person and it helps with my leadership and just help me to grow because I was really shy at first and joining soon council help me to be the person that I am now sober what are some of your extracurricular activities piano  I have a science Fair competition coming up I'm in Girl Scouts I think one of the most important thing to do is to make sure that your humble and I being present isn't it out like bossing people around not making sure that the city council stays together and that they work as a team and keeping them just positive and as a good group that other people can look up and I think  as president just have to make sure that you stay home and that you just go with the flow the mistakes that happen when you're in a certain situation and you just have to learn to handle them where do you see a fake date in 10 years add another location to bowling another school right the same school  having a very close-knit group of students as a big family and it's really appreciate life like it's a big heart I think the main things that that make cigarette what it is is the fact that you're a family how do I cure license in Key West what is a deep question I think when I leave here and when I come back to is that the city council days  the whole song group that it is a group just like on leadership and being the best that you can be just a group that overall represents Sacred Heart in a positive light just being able to show the school Integrity in a way that some people cancel what would you like to be when you grow up for your future professions I know that I want to be able to inspire people in some way there was a point where I really really wanted to do like inspirational speaking or just burdens but I know that it may not be realistic enough so one thing I know YouTube like the photos and their models aren't photoshopped or edit and the article in the magazine are inspiring stories of people in this focusing on the youth and the team because that's a very rough time as inhalants so is it I think I want the magazine to help people understand that they can look to a magazine for the people on being fired to live  what do you like to do in your free time  when I have returned I like to sleep and I like to eat a lot is just talk with my friends and hang out and just have a good time because snake tattoos  I could go to but I guess I don't really do that in my free time during class  why my dad was so all of my relatives are from back in Illinois so my dad side of my mom cider off from Illinois and and my mom's from afar towns near Springfield and my dad is from a Rivertown Alton bite on the Mississippi River and across the so what made you move that California well my dad was transferred out here when I was a senior in high school in the middle my senior year and I graduated early so I didn't have to go to Redlands High School or Aquinas and just kind of really like the weather out here but honestly there's not crazy about the California culture at that time and my brother had gone back to Illinois to go to school Southern Illinois University and so I went back there you know with with him and then I graduated from there had my first year teaching in Elgin Illinois when they had the coldest winter in Chicago to stream here to Blizzard on Mother's Day and I came home for the summer planning to return back there for my second year of my second teaching position or second year of teaching and got a job offer at 6 heart and love the weather and decided I really don't want to go back to the snow and he stayed out here where to go to school elementary school and high school okay I went I moved almost every year or every 3 because my dad with mirror for so I went to school my first US Cleaners were in Florida preschool and then Germany and to us will an Air Force Base and then went to move to Illinois and goodness went to fourth grade and then moved my 6th grade year to a different School in the same town and then move to a different town in Illinois for 8th grade and moved in the middle of my 8th grade year 2 Antonio Texas and graduated from Judson High School which the Judson rockets that was a mascot the state football champions many many years and then moved into my senior year to Redlands to teleport School so I ran I ran trafficking did I like distance running I didn't get into that until college and play basket unfortunately when I was in Middle School and High School the only sport that they had four females what year was basketball in but that's all they had to add my myself now but what we did have when I was growing up if they had summer intramurals or not even an intramural bit summer play softball there would be swimming you know you would ride your bike everywhere and the cellphone the swimming we did but now I look kayaking kayaking and my neighbor so much too big for it  when did you want to become a you know what is funny I always wanted to be a teacher always there was never a question in my mind my poor brother and sister they would be my students because I'm the oldest so there would be a chalkboard in our garage or down in the basement and I would make them you know I do math companies have to come up and crack them and so we play school a lot with portraits torch with my siblings and my grandmother was a teacher and so Flat Creek teaching manuals you know even though it was like high school English and I would flip through but and I love I love kids and I love working with kids at there was just really I never had a question at all what I wanted to do like I was one of the lucky ones though  what did you say I said oh my goodness 1982 my first year teaching annoying and it was a second grade position and I was planning to go back and like I said and opening now came up here and I've taught fourth grade here and for couple years and second grade for a couple years I was with first kindergarten teacher where are the in the garden is now an eighth-grade room there was not that wall that separated it that was the hall before the Pastoral Center here was built and so we would current meetings over there and 8th grade room if you look at it in the back closet there's little lights above the two back doors and those working when they had to use the Hall of kind of a sacred worship space as we're confessionals back there so they scrape your time you're nice bedroom you're really kind of on Holy Ground Carousel and then after I told my first year kindergarten I was also in the process of getting my masters in University of Redlands and so when that was completed I went and taught in the public school for 3 years because we were poor as part of the deal with my husband that I would you know going to public school and earn a little bit more money to pay off some bills and then and then I came back can I came back apart kindergarten again and then I moved into the junior high and ironically I love are there any interesting people that you've met throughout your job interesting people  yes you know I love I love meeting and working with people that are really passionate about education so I've met different you know Karen snacks when you say people you don't kids over the years that I've been teaching long time I have kids were soon as it'll come back and you know and I get to me I can't any one person in particular it's hard to name the Dominican sisters that were here when I first came the sisters at a time you know when I was in junior high and Illinois I went to St Malachy Catholic School in there with the sisters that were there and back the principal at that time was best friends with the principal when I came here I didn't know it until after school started they started talking and I realized that they connection and  then I'm in I'm in a Catholic educational leadership program at University of San Francisco so I have a lot of wonderful great interesting people from all over the world there there's Jesuit priest from Rome and India and sisters who teachers and principals and lay people like myself who are either teaching or in a leadership position and just that that part is really because you're just you know you're with people that are just passion about at Catholic Education and love their face and it's almost like a eldo it's a lot of homework it's a lot of work but it's kind of like a retreat for me you know kind of feeds my soul so with that what's the first thing you didn't like to sing all my kids are my proudest and being a mom cuz that's the that's the sister of blessing you know but you know  I got I got a really nice award a long time it when I'm trying to go I can go see you thousand or so but I was nominated and selected as the western region of the US by got a I'm teacher of your words through the national through NCAA and that was really that was kind of a big deal cuz it covered all the westerns and I was shocked I got it and that was put that as far as you know  crowd things it's just one of those things that you don't think you know what happened in Athens that really just so you know kind of my kids and safe
