Welcome to 3rd grade!!! I have been teaching 3rd grade at Sacred Heart Academy since 2005. I graduated from Cal State San Bernardino in 2002 with a B.A. in Liberal Studies and a minor in music and I earned my teaching credential from the University of Redlands.  I have been a parishioner at Holy Name of Jesus since 1978.  My husband, Roger, and I were married here.  My son attended Sacred Heart Academy from kindergarten through eighth grade!   So, needless to say, my family is very committed to this parish and school.  I truly enjoy teaching 3rd grade and try to make learning fun, engaging, and relevant.

Non-Uniform Day and Science Fair

Tomorrow is non-uniform day!!!

We finished going over science fair information.  If you have any questions, please contact me.   Please make sure to complete the bottom of the information letter and return it to school tomorrow.  Thank you!

Science Fair Project

We started talking about the science fair project in class today.  The students were given an information packet; please take a look at it.  Have them bring the packet back to school tomorrow as we will be talking about it more in class.  Their assignment is to figure out if they want to work with a partner or not and if they are working with a partner, parents need to make connections.  Then a project needs to be decided on and the bottom of the intro letter needs to completed and returned by Friday.  If you have any questions, please contact me.  Thank you.

Scootpad and Important Dates

There is Scootpad homework this week.  It is already available.

Science Fair: I will be talking to the class on Wednesday about the science fair. The projects are due on Tuesday, January 19th.

School Masses that 3rd grade will be leading: Grandparents Mass on Friday 2/5 and parish Ash Wednesday mass on 2/10.  This is two masses back to back, but I know this class can do it!

Living Desert field trip: Friday 2/19.  I have all the drivers/chaperones signed up that I am allowed to take.  More info about if you would like to tag along will be coming soon.

School Mass, Christmas Program, and Friday

School Mass: Please do not forget to have your student bring a can or box food to Mass.  The students were each given an envelop to put any contribution they have for the mission.  There will be a special offertory especially for the missions at tomorrow's school Mass.

Christmas Program:  Please have your student at the University of Redlands at 5:15.  We will be seated on the main floor, back of the middle aisle.  You will need to sigh your student in and leave your cell number.  At the end of the program, you will need to sign our student out from the same area we will be sitting.

Friday: We will be having our Christmas party on Friday.  If your student will not be coming to school on Friday, please let me know because there is something going home on Friday that we may need to send home with your student on Thursday.

Info for this week:

Wednesday Mass: we will be having a special Mission Mass celebrated by Msgr. Tom Wallace.  He ministers in the Mission Office of the diocese.  We will be having a special collection at the mass to donate to the missions that the diocese works with.  I have asked the students to offer up a dollar or two to help another student in need.  So, hopefully your student may ask if they can do some extra chores to earn extra money to donate to the missions.

Friday: we will be having our class Christmas party.  They are invited to wear their pajamas and bring a pillow and blanket as we will be watching Christmas movies, eating snacks, and playing games.

Jeans for Jesus and Santa's Workshop

Tomorrow we are having a Jeans for Jesus to raise money to donate the Harry Bowman children's fund.  Mr. Bowman was a previous teacher here at SHA that died last week during the terrible San Bernardino shooting.  If your student wears jeans and a school uniform shirt it will be $1, but for $2 your student can wear jeans and a nonuniform shirt.  Any amount above that would also be gladly received and donated.

Our class will be going to the Santa's Workshop tomorrow afternoon.  Students can purchase Christmas gifts for immediate family members.  Items will cost between $1-$5.

Important Info

Please ask your student for the flyer about Adopt-A-Family for Christmas.  Our room moms, Mrs. Flores and Mrs. Barbara, will be coordinating the donations for this very imortant community service.

This Friday we will be attending the school's Penance service.  Next week's Mass will be on Tuesday for the Immaculate Conception.  The Mass will be at 9:00.

Novel Study

Today we begin a Novel Study unit.  We are reading The Witches by Roald Dahl.  We will be spending the next few weeks on this fun, adventurous story.
  • For each section that we read, there will be a Dictionary Detective worksheet to complete.  Here, the students use www.dictionary.com to help define vocabulary they will read in the chapter.  Students need to study these vocabulary words as they will be quizzed at a later time.
  • I then read aloud the chapters while the students follow along in their own copy.
  • Students complete a chapter summary worksheet and then work on a chapter summary matchbook.
I will post in the homework page any assignments or quizzes as they come up.

Thanksgiving

Thank you to all the families that contributed and helped with our successful Charlie Brown Thanksgiving feast!  All your support is very much appreciated.

I want to wish all of you a very blessed Thanksgiving.  I am thankful for the opportunity to teach this great group of students.

Report Cards

Report cards went home today in the yellow envelope.  Please review your student's grades.  Celebrate the accomplishments and discuss goals for improvement for the next trimester.  Please sign and return the report card envelope at your parent teacher conference.

Book and Blanket/Coat drives

  • Please look through your student's books.  If there are any gently used books that your student is no longer reading, please consider donating them to the school library.
  • While you are looking through the books, perhaps you can look through their jackets and coats.  The school is collecting gently used and new coats and blankets to donate to local groups helping the needy.  It is getting colder at night and there are many in our community that are in need of warm clothing.
Thank you so much for your generosity.

Special school mass

Tomorrow is out annual Veterans' Day Mass.  If you are a vet please join us!  If you know a vet, please invite them to this special Mass.  As usual, please have your student bring aboard or can food item.

Non-uniform Friday

Your student has non-uniform tomorrow if they were in uniform compliance for the month of October.

Also, tomorrow is a minimum day.  If your student goes to ex-care, please make sure they have a lunch.

School Mass

I am so PROUD of this class!!!  They did a great job leading out school liturgy! From the readings to the singing to the greeting and the sainting, all the students were outstanding.  If you have any pictures from the Mass that you would like to share with the class, please email them to me at [email protected] and I can post them here.

This week's school Mass

Our mighty class will be leading our school liturgy this week.  Our choir will be singing and cantoring, and many of the students have reading parts.  Please join us as we celebrate All Saints Day with the school.
