San Giuseppe (St. Joseph) is our patron saint in 4th grade and we put the class under his protection at the beginning of each school year. On March 19 we celebrate his feast day with a St. Joseph's table (La Tavola di San Giuseppe) that we have displayed at our morning assembly. After assembly loaves of bread (or pretzels, etc.) and fava beans are given to all the grades. See photos in my photo album.
San Tommaso d'Aquino, (St. Thomas Aquinas), is our other patron saint for 4th grade. We don't delve too deeply into his work, but you'd be surprised how much they can tell you.
As a school community we honor our Blessed Mother Mary, especially in October with our focus on the Rosary, in December with the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and throughout the month of May beginning with our May Crowning.
And of course we also honor St. Francis, St. Valentine and St. Patrick in particular on their feast days as a school community, and 4th grade daily writes the Saint of the Day on our prayer wall. We write the daily Saint for both the Western and Eastern Church. 4th grade additionally prays daily for priests and vocations to the married life - this replaces our Adopted 6. Being huge Dodgers fans in 4th grade, this year how we will choose the people we pray for is by picking someone who is a Dodgers fan. The 4th graders liked that idea.
