Transitional Kindergarten

The Sacred Heart TK program is a Catholic based foundational curriculum that encompasses daily activities to encourage children to grow in the love of God. The faith formation is taught to the children through actively learning God’s word, teaching our students to pray and through worship music.

Children participate in church celebrations that are age-appropriate and that are designed to stimulate interactive learning. The students participate in songs, stories and activities that help explain our faith in detail. The curriculum includes memory verses, songs and books that help the students understand God’s word in a form that is appropriate to their age.

Our classroom is PLAY-based to ensure that the students are using all their senses. Students are empowered to be hands on in the learning process. Activities can include students following daily routines to help ensure that they are making choices or decisions that help them grow. Daily activities help students learn by using visual, auditory, songs, and kinesthetic styles of learning.

Our Language Arts program is phonics based. This program encourages students to recognize capital letters and lower-case letters while also listening for each letter’s sounds. There are many opportunities through each classroom setting to learn how to blend letters and sounds together to begin reading sight words.

Science and Math concepts are learned through several manipulative games, objects, and play based scenarios. Students will have math workbook that follows interactive learning tools. These tools  help ensure a clear understanding of basic addition and subtraction concepts.

Physical education provides cognitive content and instruction designed to develop motor skills. Our physical fitness provides students with the ability to build confidence, to work as a team and to create a love for a healthy lifestyle.

Curriculum is integrated through small group activities that promote following directions step by step and formulating fine motor skills. Our students will be learning to coordinate using pencils, scissors, construction of Legos and other activities that help promote their overall growth. These small groups can be formatted in a 1:1 ration with the teacher and up to a 4:1 student to teacher ratio.
